She’s been called one of the greatest vocalists of our time, but for months, pop superstar Christina Aguilera remained silent on her pregnancy. But after first confirming her status to Glamour UK earlier this month, the 26-year-old singer goes into detail about her child, her husband and what to expect when you’re an international superstar who’s expecting in the upcoming issue of Marie Claire.

Although rumored since early July, Aguilera’s pregnancy with husband Jordan Bratman was mostly speculation until Paris Hilton let it slip at a party before the MTV Video Music Awards on September 9. For Aguilera, the loose-lipped announcement was an uncommon intrusion into a generally private life, but she said she took it in stride. “I just wasn’t commenting. I’m not being like, ‘Hey, everybody, I’m pregnant!’ I’m not that girl,” Aguilera told the magazine. “Because I hadn’t said anything, people thought I was trying to keep it this big, bad secret, and that’s not the case at all.”

In fact, Aguilera said she had revealed her pregnancy to quite a number of people, including her band and dancers, before Hilton’s faux pas. “I wanted to make sure they had my back,” she said. The admission was part of an overall plan designed to keep her and her baby as safe and healthy as possible, while also continuing her Back to Basics tour, which still had a month to go when Aguilera learned of her pregnancy. (She told the mag that she believes she got pregnant while on the show’s Washington, D.C., stop). The show, which includes 10 costume changes and somewhat dangerous stunts, made Aguilera “paranoid” about endangering her child, she said.

“There are so many things that could go wrong — somebody could slip, somebody could fall, I could fall. There was no way in hell I was going to jeopardize my baby for my show,” she insisted, admitting to that she wore a hidden heart monitor to keep track of her body’s homeostasis. “[I took precautions, but] I didn’t want to make the audience uncomfortable, like, ‘Pregnant lady onstage! Is she going to be OK?’ ”

The extra steps were necessary because of what Aguilera now admits was a surprise conception. “We were planning on starting to try after the tour. And so I had gone off the pill to prepare my body, because I didn’t know how much time it would take,” the singer confessed. “You’ve heard it takes some time — except with Power Egg and Super Sperm here. … I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, can you believe it just happened?’ “

Christina Aguilera was crippled with fears for her unborn child during her world tour earlier this year - she wore a carefully-hidden heart monitor in case of emergency.

The pop star admits she was terrified when she found out she was pregnant during the seven-month ‘Back to Basics’ tour, which ended in May, and would have quit if doctors hadn’t come up with an ingenious way of reducing the risks.

She says: “I was paranoid. There are so many things that could go wrong - somebody could slip, somebody could fall, I could fall. There was no way in hell I was going to jeopardise my baby for my show.

“I didn’t want to make the audience uncomfortable, like, ‘Pregnant lady onstage! Is she going to be okay?’ But I had to announce it to my band and my dancers, because I wanted to make sure they had my back.”

Aguilera is expecting her first child with husband Jordan Bratman early next year.

However, she was caught sans her underwear by paparazzi while enjoying a recent night out. Hopefully Christina will learn her lesson and not do a repeat performance.

Christina Aguilera has taken the title of her album ‘Stripped” quite literally by posing nude for PETA in Christmas e-card. The 27-year-old star wears just a pair of saucy gloves in the card, and tells shoppers not to buy fur this festive season.

“When I was 6 years old, I had a little fur coat, but that was it. That’s the only time I’ve ever had any in my life,” said Christina. She also proclaims herself as a hardcore vegetarian and also urges people to go for synthetic fur instead of real, thereby saving some money in the process. “When I became a vegetarian, I just started reading more and more about where fur comes from and what they do to the animals,” she says. “It all went hand-in-hand together. That was when I was 15.”

She adds: “They make really great synthetic fur - you really don’t need real fur. “And it’s cheaper, so why spend the money? The holidays are also a time when people freak out about their finances. “If you don’t want to spend the money, why not try some of the other options instead of killing a bunch of animals?”

Christina has now joined the likes of Alicia Silverstone, Pamela Anderson, Sophie Monk and Jamelia who have also posed nude for PETA.
